By advancing remodeling professional’s knowledge through education and industry involvement, they can offer consumers a trusted resource of professionals.

The N.K.B.A.

There is also the National Kitchen & Bath Association, also known as the N.K.B.A. Their goal is to enhance member success and excellence, promote professionalism and ethical business practice, and to provide leadership for the kitchen and bath industry worldwide.

The B.I.A.

The B.I.A. focuses on new home construction, but there are some remodeling companies present as well. Members have submitted to a more rigorous review of their business practices and relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and homeowners. The B.I.A’s Registered Builder Committee assures that Registered Builders:

• Are in good credit standing
• Have professional references on file
• Have attended educational courses on an annual basis
• Have no unresolved complaints pending
• Principal income is derived from the home building industry

All Things Considered

A remodeling general contractor (G.C.) manages your project from start to finish; they often provide you with design build services by outsourcing particular steps. This can be more economical because it allows you to own your plans and take it out to bid. There is also the flexibility of deciding between an architect and a residential planner.

Many Handyman services and New Home builders are stepping into the arena of home remodeling due to current economic conditions. He may be extending himself too far and the quality of work may suffer. New homebuilders too, are trying their hand at remodeling and finding it more difficult than expected.

A good remodeling contractor has established a level of service through his company and the subcontractors that he uses to meet the homeowners day-to-day needs.
